Perizade Needs To Learn To Cook

As I'm preparing the meat sauce for my supper, I'm contemplating making a lesson plan for the use of recipes. My library students, as far as I'm concerned, ought to learn ALL the uses of media, even the little things. And recipes are, I believe, beautiful writing. They're somewhat like pragmatic, useful poetry. There's the list of lovely ingredients, sequenced steps, simple yet powerful in their impact to the reader. Really, recipes are beautiful! Look at this random one I found for apple sauce:

Chunk-Style Apple Sauce

tasty sauce!)
Peeled, cored, and sliced into chunks
1/2 cup water
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 to 1 cup sugar

Put all ingredients into Crock-Pot. Cover and cook on Low
8-10 hours (high 3-4 hours). Serve warm with or without whipped
cream.

Think about that visual you get in your head. Peeled, cored, and sliced into chunks. And those lovely words that all people enjoy reading- cinnamon, apples, cream. It inspires you- it makes you want to get out the crock pot RIGHT now and start. Recipes are perfect for reluctant readers and practical souls. They're perfect for creative folks who love life and all it has to offer.
